teatro aberto
The project aims to expand the Teatro Aberto to include a new blackbox studio (Sala Verde) and a covered terrace. It is important to improve access to the original building by installing a lift to ensure accessibility between all floors and uses.
The ambition is to open up the theatre to Rua Ramalho Ortigão through an indoor/outdoor space.
This initiative is being carried out under SRU-Ocidental coordination, on the premise of not intervening in the existing building.
The external staircase leading to the Teatro Aberto main entrance and the Sala Verde blackbox is being regularised through a courtyard, where various social and artistic events can take place, complementing the building’s dynamics. This courtyard, which is lower than the street level, is brought to life by the strong vertical garden presence.
The restaurant extends into an enclosed and covered terrace, projecting out towards the city and the Praça de Espanha park through large glass windows.
The large roof canopy marks and brings together all these extension spaces, announcing a new entrance to the Teatro Aberto.
The materials and finishes of the extension reveal an affirmative attitude that dialogues with the original building.
