tenente valadim
A small corner single-family building located in the Cascais historic centre.
The existing façade, which was disordered, does not take advantage of the location and privileged views.
A poorly lit and overly fragmented interior space.
The design project concept was to enhance the corner and strengthen its relationship with the Baía dos Pescadores and the Cidadela.
The stone base with vertical stereotomy allowed the garage doors and technical cabinets to be integrated in a single gesture, that gently contours the corner. A recessed wooden panel announces the house entrance.
The façade of the intermediate floors was regularised, with balcony openings that extend the house to the outside in dialogue with the stone balconies.
The upper floor is recessed and differentiated in colour and material, and communicates with a terrace that runs the entire house length, offering views over the village, the sea and the Sintra mountains.
The interior has been simplified in order to enlarge the living spaces. The kitchen integrated into the living room follows this principle.
The dignity of the materials, as well as the interplay of details, lend quality to this small building.
